Samson Gunga
Samson Gunga is Teacher Educator, Professor of Philosophy of Education in the Faculty of Education of the University of Nairobi (UON). Previously, he trained as a mathematics teacher and taught in Kenyan secondary schools. He studied Philosophy of (Mathematics) Education at Master and Doctor of Philosophy levels through scholarships from Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi and the German Academic Exchange Programme (DAAD) respectively. He has a Master degree in Information Systems from the University of Sunderland; he is trained in “Teaching and Assessment Online” having been awarded Commonwealth Fellowship at the University of Dundee, UK. Having keen interest in Philosophy of Education, Philosophy of Religious Education, E-learning, Online and Distance Education, Samson has written several journal articles on philosophy of education and integrating philosophic deliberations within online education and e-learning environments. Additionally, he has authored e-books; e-learning modules for both UON and African Virtual University (AVU). Samson has been Chairman of Department of Educational Foundations, Associate Dean Faculty of Education, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Nairobi during which time he has been trained in the management of higher education. He has been external examiner for Kenyatta University, Mount Kenya University, University of Pretoria, University of Dar Es Salaam and Moi University. Samson was an education consultant for Teacher Education Training in South Sudan; Evaluation Consultant of Education Projects for the Syspons GmbH, Germany (2017 and 2020).
