The WAC-SRT team invites young students from African countries to apply for a DAAD-scholarship for master program in Ghana

The West African Center for Sustainable Rural Transformation offers scholarships for the Master of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics, based in Tamale, Ghana. The Master of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics is a 2-year structured program. The first year is designated for course work while the second year is a full research year. The Program will lead to the award of a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Agricultural Economics by the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale.

The program is taught in English; therefore, English proficiency is a critical requirement for those who wish to apply. Successful scholarship candidates must also possess a First Degree with a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) in a relevant field from a recognized institution of higher learning. Note that your First Degree certificate should not be older than six years.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships for the MPhil Agricultural Economics Programme for the 2022/2023 Academic Year under the West African Centre for Sustainable Rural Transformation (WAC-SRT) at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana.

Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Agricultural Economics (2 years, Full Time)

  •  Admission/Scholarship Requirements

Pour être admis dans le programme MPhil Agricultural Economics, les candidats doivent avoir :

  1. Un premier diplôme avec un minimum de Second Class Lower Division dans un domaine pertinent d'un établissement d'enseignement supérieur reconnu ou son équivalent dans une discipline pertinente.
  2. For candidates who wish to apply for DAAD scholarship, a first degree with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division in a relevant field from a recognized institution of higher learning. The last academic degree obtained should not be older than six years.
  3. Soumettre les relevés de notes officiels, les certificats et autres documents pertinents des programmes de premier cycle achevés avec succès.
  4. Les étudiants qui postulent pour la bourse du DAAD doivent inclure une déclaration de motivation d'une page. En outre, les candidats doivent inclure un curriculum vitae mis à jour et une proposition de recherche détaillant le travail de recherche prévu.
  5. DAAD Scholarship applicants must pass a selection interview (face to face interview for local applicants or online interview for foreign applicants, as may be applicable).

  • Mode d'application

All Ghanaian and foreign applicants for the 2022/2023 academic year admissions are required to use the UDS online application portal at www.uds.edu.gh. The procedure for the online application process is as follows:

  1. Ghanaian applicants are to make a payment of GHS 250.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis) forthe UDS E-Voucherat any Zenith Bank, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Prudential Bank, National Investment Bank (NIB), GCB Bank Ltd., Ecobank and Stanbic Bank branches throughout the country and use the E-voucher number to complete the application form on the UDS online portal (www.uds.edu.gh).
  2. Foreign applicants should visit UDS online payment portal at www.pay.uds.edu.gh with a Master Card or Visa Card to make an online payment of $100.00 (One Hundred US Dollars) for the e-Voucher.

  4. Access the online form by visiting our online admissions portal at www.uds.edu.gh soon after payment.

  6. Un formulaire n'est considéré comme complet que lorsqu'il est SOUMIS après avoir accepté notre politique de confirmation des données (cliquez sur Soumettre pour terminer votre candidature). Il est conseillé aux candidats de vérifier soigneusement tous les détails saisis avant de soumettre définitivement leur candidature en ligne. Un formulaire, une fois soumis, peut être consulté, mais ne peut pas être modifié.
  7. Applicants must print out three copies of the application summary; attach transcripts, certificates, and all other relevant documents to each form. Three referees’ details are also required. Candidates must also attach a synopsis of their thesis proposal (maximum of five pages) as part of the application.
  8. Applicants in Ghana are strongly advised to visit any EMS Office in the Country for assistance towards the return of the application documents. Applicants are advised not to post the forms themselves. They should seek the advice and services of Ghana Post EMS. The application documents specified above should be addressed to:

Foreign applicants should also post three sets of the application documents mentioned in (vii) by Express mail to the address indicated above.

  1. For foreign applications, candidates should send a scanned copy of the application form and all documents in (vii) above to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Graduate School through this email: syebaoh@uds.edu.gh and copy the Head of Department through the email: benjamin.anang@uds.edu.gh.
  2. All applicants for the DAAD Scholarships should send a scanned copy of their application form and all documents to the UDS Coordinator of Programmes, West African Centre for Sustainable Rural Transformation (WAC-SRT, UDS) through the email: agershon@uds.edu.gh and mayamga@uds.edu.gh. Also, copy the Senior Assistant Registrar at the Graduate School (syeboah@uds.edu.gh) as well as the Head of Department (Agricultural and Food Economics) via benjamin.anang@uds.edu.gh. It is important that scanned copies of your application are emailed as a single pdf file to the designated officers to support the application process. Incomplete applications will not be considered during the selection process.
