Prof. Andreas Gernert

Prof. Dr. Andreas Gernert is Assistant Professor for Sustainable Operations at Kühne Logistics University (KLU). Before joining KLU, he was a post-doctoral researcher in the Technology and Operations Management Area at INSEAD. His research explores policies, business models, and strategies across the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. To this end, he applies Game Theory, Optimization, and Statistics to: (i) characterize policies that promote efficiency and fairness in systems supporting people in need, (ii) identify profitable and impactful business models for entrepreneurs in developing countries' emergency management systems, (iii) study strategies to mitigate financial distress in supply chains, and (iv) assess interventions aimed at reducing child labor in the agricultural sector.Prof. Dr. Gernert envisions a future in which for-profit and non-profit organizations, along with individuals, contribute meaningfully to the Sustainable Development Goals. Motivated by this vision, his work continues to focus on advancing research that supports sustainability and addresses humanitarian challenges through innovative policies and inclusive business models.
