    What You’ll Learn:

    Over six weeks, this self-paced course will guide you to:

    • Understand why open matters for learning in today’s digital world
    • Define Open Educational Resources (OER) and their role in solving real-world challenges
    • Gain practical knowledge of copyright rights, protections, exceptions, and transfer
    • Apply and interpret Public Domain and Creative Commons licenses
    • Explore remix compatibility for creating derivative works legally

    Hands-On Learning:

    This course combines theory with practice with interactive resources and challenges to test your understanding and a “Remix Game” to apply open licensing principles in creative, practical ways.

    Course Format:

    Fully self-paced unless advertised as a facilitated module.

    Approx. 30-35 hours self-paced learning

    Live Zoom sessions:

    none (only offered when advertised as facilitated)

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Discuss the significance of open practices in education
    • Confidently define and apply the concept of OER

    • Apply open licensing knowledge to create and share learning resources

    Requirements:

    An internet connection, basic web browsing skills and a willingness to engage with open resources and apply them in your own teaching, research, or study practice.

        • A student is currently enrolled in a study programme at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network).
      2. Staff
        • Staff is everybody who works in the frame of a university which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network) [(i.e. as coordinator, financial/administrative support, IT-support, learning designer, administrator etc.). If you are working for DAAD or DIGI-FACE you are also staff.
      3. Alumni
        • An Alumni is a former student in a study programme at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network). In many cases, part of one of the centres’ alumni associations.
      4. Lecturer
        • A Lecturer performs teaching and pedagogic work at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network)
      5. Researcher
        • A researcher is an individual who is engaged in conducting research at one of the universities which is participating in DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence, Global Centres and its networks). Researchers contribute to academic knowledge through studies, experiments, and publications in various fields of expertise.
