Ms Joëlle-Laure TANGUEP SIAKAM
I am Joelle-Laure Tanguep Siakam, a passionate PhD student specializing in the study and control of vector-borne diseases, with a particular focus on Cameroon, Central Africa, and global perspectives. With a background in animal biology and a Master's degree in Zoology, I have developed a strong expertise in entomology, parasitology, and ecological vector control strategies. Currently pursuing my PhD at the Higher Institute of Scientific and Medical Research (ISM) and the University of Yaoundé I, my research revolves around onchocerciasis, a prevalent disease in Cameroon et en Afrique en générale. I am investigating disease prevalence, simulidian population dynamics, cytotaxonomy, and conducting trials on the effectiveness of ecological vector control methods such as Slash and Clear. Throughout my academic journey, I have actively engaged in field research, prospecting and mapping breeding sites, assessing the impact of larviciding interventions, and coordinating vector collection efforts. I am skilled in data analysis using software like SPSS, Stata, and ArcGIS, enabling me to effectively analyze and interpret research findings. My interests extend beyond the laboratory, as I am passionate about the One Health approach, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. I am dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific research and practical implementation, aiming to contribute to the development of sustainable strategies for vector-borne disease control. With a strong commitment to communication and knowledge sharing, I have actively participated in conferences, delivered oral presentations, and engaged in awareness campaigns. I am driven by a desire to make a positive impact in public health, particularly in neglected tropical diseases, zoonotic diseases, and the well-being of communities affected by vector-borne diseases. Overall, my skills, expertise, and interests converge in the pursuit of understanding and combating vector-borne diseases, with the ultimate goal of improving the health and well-being of populations at risk.
