Deadline registration all three courses: 10 September 2025.

Course 1: Sustainable Resource Use Involving Local Communities through Transdisciplinarity

After the course, you will be able to describe and apply fundamental knowledge of sustainable resource use and sustainability; recognize and explain the importance of local and indigenous knowledge for sustainable resource use; gain knowledge of community engagement strategies; and develop transdisciplinary research methods and apply them in practical contexts.

This course is taught by Dr. Lysann Schneider. It is fully self-paced. It requires about 15 hours to complete. Course access period: 11 – 30 September 2025

Course 2: Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling (ABM)

The powerful simulation approach you have chosen to study is widely used by scientists, stakeholders, and policymakers, particularly when combined with geospatial and agricultural management data. Over the next few weeks, you will learn to understand complex ABM concepts, build ABMs with geospatial data, and code in NetLogo.

This first module (ABM_1) takes about 10 hours. You will be invited to the next two courses after completing the first module. This course is taught by instructors from the University of Twente. This course is fully self-paced.

After the course, you will be able to: Identify a CAS (Complex Adaptive System), describe its relevant complex properties (such as emergence and scales), and link these properties with model components and dynamics. Document an existing ABM using a standard protocol. Read and run NetLogo models using existing examples. Course access period: 11 -30 September 2025

Course 3: GIS for Beginners

This course aims to enhance basic knowledge and skills in GIS and remote sensing, such as creating a simple map, georeferencing, extracting information from Google Earth Pro, and analyzing and collecting spatial data for agricultural sciences.

The course takes about 15 hours and is taught by Dr. Thanh Nguyen (University of Kassel). This course is fully self-paced. Course access period: 25 September – 15 October 2025
