    Strengthen Your Postgraduate Supervision Skills with this engaging online course!

    Perfect for:

    Supervisors with 3 years‘ experience and a PhD who want to deepen their knowledge and practice of postgraduate supervision across diverse higher education contexts.

    What You’ll Learn:

    Over eight weeks, you’ll gain the essential skills to:

    • Position postgraduate supervision as pedagogy and use it as a framework for your supervision practices
    • Negotiate power relations and foster inclusive learning environments
    • Reflect on and adapt different supervision styles and models to suit your students’ needs
    • Encourage postgraduate student writing and provide constructive feedback
    • Facilitate scholarship development and guide students in becoming ethical researchers

    Hands-On Learning:

    This is not just theory! You will actively engage in self-paced modules and interactive activities; join weekly live Zoom sessions with experienced facilitators; contribute to an online community of peers, sharing and reflecting on your own supervision experiences.

    Course Format:

    Weekly live Zoom sessions to help you connect, ask questions, and deepen your understanding

    75 notional hours with 7 hours of self-directed learning hours per week.

    Live Zoom sessions:

    One one-hour session per week for eight weeks.

    Target group:

    Supervisors with 3 years‘ experience and a PhD

    Learning Outcomes (four main points):

    • Create inclusive and effective supervision environments
    • Apply and critically reflect on different models and styles of supervision
    • Support postgraduate students’ writing and research development
    • Engage ethically and thoughtfully as a postgraduate supervisor

    Requirements:

    • Access to the internet, Microsoft Word, and a PDF reader.
    • A commitment to participate in weekly tasks, discussions, and one final reflective assignment (2,500–5,000 words).
    • A desire to grow as a supervisor and contribute to postgraduate scholarship in Africa.

        • Staff is everybody who works in the frame of a university which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network) [(i.e. as coordinator, financial/administrative support, IT-support, learning designer, administrator etc.). If you are working for DAAD or DIGI-FACE you are also staff.
      3. Alumni
        • An Alumni is a former student in a study programme at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network). In many cases, part of one of the centres’ alumni associations.
      4. Lecturer
        • A Lecturer performs teaching and pedagogic work at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network)
      5. Researcher
        • A researcher is an individual who is engaged in conducting research at one of the universities which is participating in DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence, Global Centres and its networks). Researchers contribute to academic knowledge through studies, experiments, and publications in various fields of expertise.
