Institution/Centre: Kenyan German Centre for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management (CEMEREM)
Role at my institution: Senior Lecturer in Plant Breeding and Dean of the School of Agriculture, Earth and Environmental Sciences
I first enrolled in an e-learning programme in 2004 while pursuing my doctoral degree. Since then, I have undertaken various courses online. However, it is not until 2017 when I enrolled and completed the full Moodle course for online pedagogy. This course equipped me with skills to prepare and deliver online courses to learners. I have also undertaken short courses offered by Taita Taveta University and the Kenya Education Network Trust on the use of the BigBlueButton virtual teaching platform. I deliver some of my courses using e-learning platforms and do enjoy it. I was privileged to enrol for the Strengthening Postgraduate Supervision (SPS) course in October 2021 which I completed successfully and was awarded the ‘Highly Competent’ grade. Between November 2022 and April 2023 I was further privileged to be successfully mentored by senior DIGIFACE facilitators to deliver the SPS course. The DIGIFACE course has been a challenging, but very enjoyable course. I look forward to continue being associated with it.
