Institution/Centre: South African German Centre for Development Research (SA GER CDR)
Role at my institution: My current role is mentoring new generation academics; facilitating strengthening supervision courses, facilitating qualitative and participatory visual methodology research courses
I have been teaching and supervising postgraduate students and have for several years worked in person and via email with them, also utilising Turn-it-in on the university Moodle platform to check plagiarism. The last few years I have been relying on platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom to engage both local and international postgraduate students in our supervision meetings. This still works well. When Covid-19 pandemic struck it became necessary to step up to a digital presence to facilitate research and supervision workshops online. With a helpful support team it was fun to learn how to develop an accessible online module and how to engage with the participants.
