Bettina Onyango

As Project Coordinator of the DIGI-FACE platform at the DAAD, I am responsible for guiding the development and implementation of a dynamic digital space that supports academic exchange, capacity building, and collaboration among Centres of African Excellence alumni and stakeholders. My work involves designing and coordinating activities that foster meaningful connections, share best practices, and provide accessible resources to empower our diverse community. Holding an MA in history and cultural anthropology from the University of Bonn, I bring experience from several international education projects. Prior to my current position, I managed the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Information and Communication Technology in East Africa (CENIT@EA), as well as the MSc Embedded and Mobile Systems (EMoS) programme within the EAC Digital Skills for an Innovative East African Industry (dSkills@EA) initiative — both on behalf of DAAD. Earlier, I contributed to the development of the ASEM education process while working with the ASEM education secretariat. Coming from a first-generation academic background, I have personally experienced the transformative power of education. This conviction motivates my dedication to making education accessible and impactful, particularly for women, youth, and disadvantaged groups. My role at DIGI-FACE is driven by a commitment to creating opportunities and removing barriers.
