    Promoting Academic Capacities for Sustainable Agricultural Resources Use in West Africa

    The West African-German network Pro-RUWA aims to train a new generation of regionally and internationally educated young scientists, entrepreneurs, and administrators. Future decision makers in francophone West Africa will be capacitated to jointly overcome bottlenecks in resource misuse and food insecurity at the national and regional level.

    Main Goals

    • Capacity Building: develope a Graduate School consisting of an international English-speaking M.Sc. program for Climate Sensitive Resource Management and a Ph.D. Graduate Acadmemy
    • Exchange: build-up a Transfer and Incubator Unit (start-up environment) and an active Alumni database
    • Sustainablity: train finance administrators on international third party funding applications and international project management

     

    Activities & Capacity Building

    We build on existing structures of the three young universities UAC, UAM, and UDDG in West Africa that have recently decided to overcome the language barriers and internationalize their graduate education. Fostering university education, international relations, regional development, and operational links between the academic, public and private sector, we promote

    • south-south and south-north-south exchange,
    • Winter Schools to qualification of PhD students and academic personnel,
    • advanced training courses for lecturers, IT / GIS staff, and administrators,
    • teaching and learning environments through state-of-the art didactic concepts and effective use of digital infrastructure,
    • scientific approaches to climate-sensitive sustainable resource use, and
    • academic and business soft skills.

    Within the Pro-RUWA Graduate School, we deliver various scholarship and funding options to MSc Students and young scientists as well as finance administrators. Every year, we call for applications for fully funded PhD research at our all three partner universities.

      • A student of a Centre of Excellence is a student currently enrolled in a study programme at one of the African Centres of Excellence.
    2. Funded Student with DAAD Scholarship of a Centre of Excellence
      • A Student DAAD funded is a student who funds their studies through a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
    3. Alumni of a Centre of Excellence
      • An Alumni is a former student of a Centre of Excellence and, in many cases, part of one of the centres’ alumni associations or of the alumni association African Excellence Network which is also known as “Tumefika”.
    4. Funded Alumni with DAAD Scholarship of a Centre of Excellence
      • An Alumni DAAD funded is a former student of a Centre of Excellence and, in many cases, part of a Centres’ alumni association or of the alumni association African Excellence Network Tumefika. In addition to that, this person would have received funding from DAAD via a scholarship during his or her period of study at the Centre.
    5. Lecturer of a Centre of Excellence
      • A Lecturer performs teaching and pedagogic work at one of the Centres.
    6. Staff of a Centre of Excellence
      • Staff of a Centre of Excellence is everybody who works in the frame of a Centre (i.e. as coordinator, financial/administrative support, IT-support, etc.).
    7. Staff of DIGI-FACE
      • Staff of DIGI-FACE is everybody who works in the frame of DIGI-FACE at one of the project’s consortium partners (i.e. as coordinator, financial/administrative support, IT-support, learning designer, administrator etc.).
    8. Staff of DAAD
      • Staff of DAAD is everybody who works at DAAD offices.

      • An External Student is a student who is not part of a Centre of Excellence.
    10. External Lecturer
      • An External Lecturer is a lecturer who is not part of a Centre of Excellence.

      • External Staff is any staff who is not part of a Centre of Excellence.
    12. External User/Other
      • An external user/other is anybody who does not belong under one of the other listed users.
