AFAS will participate in this year’s European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) from 31 May to 3 June 2023 in Cologne (Germany).

ECAS is hosted by one of our institutional partners, the Global South Studies Center (GSSC) at the University of Cologne in collaboration with the Catholic University of Leuven’s Institute for Anthropological Research in Africa (IARA).

Under the overall theme “African Futures”, we will hold our panel on “Adapting to and combating climate change in Africa’s drylands”. This panel interrogates the uncertain future of Africa’s drylands or savannas due to the threats of climate change and biodiversity loss. It assesses current problems, probable ecological outcomes and possibilities for African communities to adapt, for instance through nature-based solutions.

Sessions: Wednesday 31 May, 13:45-15:30, Wednesday 31 May, 16:00-17:45

Convenors:

  • Gerda Kuiper (University of Cologne)
  • N’golo A. Koné (University Félix Houphouët-Boigny)
